Tips to get the best Pamlico area rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in New Bern. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Pamlico area vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Coastal Casita by the River has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Pamlico area rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Pamlico area attraction you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- To make certain that damages are not linked to your visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Contact the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
