Strategies to get the best rental experience:
When to reserve a Pamlico area rental home & When to go:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Pamlico area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking a perfectrental:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Amazing 3 BR House \/ Downtown New Bern \/ Sleeps 8 has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, email the host before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- If there's a certain Pamlico area attraction you crave, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
