Tips to get the best rental home experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer time is high season in New Bern. To find the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- To start, have your group agree to the best dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. 2br Loft River Fun for the Whole Family! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
During your stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
