Tips for getting the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the Pamlico area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Pamlico area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Waterfront Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
