Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Book your Pamlico area rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Pamlico area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Grey Goose (Waterfront) Historic New Bern - Private Beach - BRING YOUR BOAT! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
