New Bern vacation rental tips:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Pamlico area area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Grey Goose (Waterfront) Historic New Bern - Private Beach - BRING YOUR BOAT! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
