Rental home booking tips:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- To get the best value, shift your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Pamlico area area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking the rightrental home:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Hip Newly Renovated Historic Riverside Home in New Bern, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
