How to get the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Pamlico area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your group decide on vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Hip Newly Renovated Historic Riverside Home in New Bern, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If not, email or call the host before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
