Strategies to get the optimal Pamlico area vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in New Bern. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Pamlico area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Neuse River Retreat has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Pamlico area beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
