Tips for getting the best vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in New Bern. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Pamlico area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Pamlico area area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Pamlico area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 4 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a specific Pamlico area destination you simply love, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective.
